EREM dance is committed to sharing its practice with the community.
We believe that presenting the development of our work, meeting people interested in our approach and developing a sense of exchange between the public and us is as important at the time of creation as during the performances. Thus, we try to organize as many workshops, open classes and rehearsals with different groups of people who love dance, with or without prior experience.
Since the creation of the company in 2020, we have been involved in different types of events that were bringing together people and the audience around the discovery and practice of movement, but also the understanding of the creation process of a piece. We have been able to offer open-level workshops and open rehearsals during the creation process of our first piece SOIR HB. This project brought us to teach and restage the work with the professional dance students of Alma Pro in Bologna in Italy.
During the first part of the year 2021, we were also able to teach movement practices to a large group of selected students at the Teatro Dimora L'Arboreto in Mondaino, and at the Corte Ospitale in Rubiera., both in Italy. In the autumn 2021, we taught a somatic workshop to the member of the theatre company Vol de Nuit in Delémont, in Switzerland.
The open rehearsal happens during the creation process of a piece, where the audience is invited to come and watch one rehearsal. After a time spent observing, a discussion is created between the artist and the audience in order to create a bridge between what they have seen, and the methodology used to choreograph a dance piece. We have also done such experience with professoinal dance students that were able to actively suggest ideas and opinions about the piece that was being choreographed under their eyes.
Restaging a piece is the opportunity for a group of dance students to enter a creation process from the perspective of an idea, or concept, already treated in one of the pieces of EREM dance. Thus, Tommy Cattin uses the same methodolgy and principles but apply them on the students in order to create with them their "own version" of the piece.
The open-level workshop aims to bring people of all levels of dance, from beginners to professional, towards sharing a moment of guided improvisation.
The somatic workshop comes from Tommy Cattin's experience in teaching somatic practices in different contexts: medical courses for massage, theatre classes, dance and movement classes. The aim of this course is to develop a somatic approach of movement and a holistic experience of the body. Such experience can be applied then in any type of work, creative or in daily movement practices.
Technique classes are made for any type of dance students who want to learn contemporary dance techniques, from beginner level to professional classes. These classes are often delivered by different dancers of the company.
